~Riley's Miracle~

Around 5pm on August 22, 2006, Riley got out of the car in our driveway. I turned around
for only a second to get Jasmine out, when I heard Riley screaming. Our landlord had been leaving
in his pickup truck about the same time. I turned around and saw Riley stuck underneith the wheel
of the truck, the wheel resting on his belly, and him screaming and kicking trying to get out. The truck
went in reverse and Riley came running out, right to my side, still screaming.

He seemed to walk fine when I put him in the car and brought him to the emergency vet. They took x-rays,
did bloodwork to check for internal bleeding, and cleaned out his wounds. They told me he was a
"very lucky boy" not to have any internal injuries. He had fractured a bone in the hip, but it was something
that would heal on it's own. The main concern was his external wounds, which the emergency vet didn't
have time to treat, so he was sent home that night, high on pain medicine and with an e-collar.

Riley went to his vet first thing in the morning. They ran more bloodwork on him and he went into surgery
to reclean the wounds and stitch them up. He had open wounds all over his legs, belly, feet, and privates.
Other than that, they agreed the fractured bone would heal on it's own, and Riley came home later that night.

To say Riley's story is any less than a miracle would be a lie. I found out later that Riley was dragged by
the truck. I found out when I found a line of his fur across the driveway....

I am very thankful my boy is still with me. I know I could very well be without him. He is my "miracle child"
so to say. He definatly has angels watching over him!
His stitches will be removed September 6th. I will update as the time passes.

Thanks to all those who kept Riley in your prayers. They were definatly answered!

UPDATE: 9/3/06 - Riley is doing very well. His wounds have healed very nicely.
The stitches are coming out Wednesday, we are BOTH looking forward to it!! He is definatly
back to himself and wanting to play play play. Of course I have to still limit that play so we
don't rip any stitches out. His fur is starting to grow back too, yay! Will update Wednesday.

UPDATE: 9/5/06 - Riley got his stitches out today! Yay!! He was so happy to have that
e-collar off. Driving home he had his head hanging out the window, tounge sticking out.. so we went
on a quick walk. I didn't want to do TOO much, so we just did the 1/2 mile walk. Riley, and Jasmine,
were both sooo happy! Since getting home he's been prancing around all day, and smiling!

UPDATE: 9/9/06 - Riley is very much back to normal. We went for a long walk today as
well as a quick swim. He's been beating up Jasmine, and she's been beating him up. He's back to
chewing bones, running around, playing tug-o-war, and being his happy self!! Thank you again
to all those who prayed and kept Riley in your thoughts!

11/29/06 - To my boy Riley~
You will never know how much you mean to me. I look back at this event and I can't imagine what it
would have been like if you didn't make it. You were so extremely lucky and blessed, once again.
There's definatly a guardian angel doggy watching over you! You've made me a better person and
taught me so much without even knowing it. You are my best friend. I love you Ri Ri!
Love, "Ashley Mom"
